blogsBlogs are just website where the entries are made in a diary/journal style. The “posts” are displayed in a reverse chronological order.

Blogs often provide opinion or news on a subject such as politics, entertainment or other social commentary. Blogs usually include text, images, and links to other blogs and web pages. The majority of blogs are primarily textual although some focus on photographs (photoblog), videos (vlog), or audio (podcasting). The blogging experience is about not only putting your thoughts on the web, but hearing back from and connecting with other like-minded folks.

The term “blog” is the shorthand for “web log.” “Blog” is also the term for adding content to a blog.

Before blogs became popular, online communities took many forms, including Usenet, e-mail lists and bulletin board systems (BBS).

Originally blogs were just manually updated components of ordinary websites. In time software was developed to make “blogging” easier. Blogs can be hosted by blog hosting services, or they can be run using blog software, such as WordPress, Typepad, blogger or LiveJournal.

You can get a blog started in less time than it takes you to read this sentence. All you need is an email address and a name. You can blog as much as you want for using their software on your own domain and website hosting, or on their website (with a WordPress domain name). Either way it’s free! If you already have a blog elsewhere and would like to move it over to, they provide several import options that can import posts and comments.

Since Blogger was launched, almost five years ago, blogs have reshaped the web, impacted politics, shaken up journalism, and enabled millions of people to have a voice and connect with others. Blogger, owned by Google, is completely free and is available only in a web based format.
